…featuring Bob Montgomery
with Al Hermann, Pete Lewis, Dave Hanson, Todd Reid and Ken Walker
Sunday June 7th, 3:00-6:00pm
This year the jazz world lost a true treasure – Clark Terry, one of the most popular and influential jazz trumpeters of his generation and an enthusiastic advocate of jazz education, with a career that spanned seven decades.
For this Blind Tiger performance Bob Montgomery and his sextet will be playing original compositions of Clark Terry and Bob will relate stories of Clark from almost 50 years of friendship, playing and teaching together.
Bob Montgomery is an internationally recognized performing artist who has appeared throughout Europe, Australia, Canada, China, Mexico, Japan, Great Britain, New Zealand and the United States. He has performed in back-up orchestras for such artists as Sammy Davis Jr., Diana Ross, Tony Bennett, Quincy Jones, Nancy Wilson, and many more. Bob toured Europe with Clark Terry’s Big Bad Band and appeared with Clark Terry at the New York JVC Jazz Festival in the festival’s tribute to him. Clark speaks of Bob several times in his new autobiography “Clark”.
Bob’s reputation as an educator has earned him many awards, including Colorado Jazz Educator Of The Year. In 2012 the Five Points Jazz Festival honored Bob for lifetime contributions to the development and appreciation of Jazz. Bob is Executive Director of Colorado Jazz Workshops, Inc., and a founding board member of the Gift of Jazz. Bob is also founder and director of the Telluride Student Jazz All-Star program held each year at the Telluride Jazz Celebration.
